Long Beach Cinematheque is proud to present director Charlie Gage’s "INSPIRED: The Voices Against Prop 8," featuring Mr. Gage and writer/producer Ian McIntosh for an in-person Q&A following the documentary, Wednesday October 17 at the historic Art Theatre of Long Beach.
“On November 8, 2008 the voters of California passed Proposition 8, revoking marriage rights for same sex couples. The next day in Los Angeles a movement was born.” Featuring interviews with numerous LGBT leaders and advocates, conversations with several same-sex couples who continue to fight for their right to marry, and footage from several protests – with a highlight on Long Beach’s own historic 2008 protest – INSPIRED is a documentary film chronicling the surge of inspiration that motivated thousands to mobilize and engage in ways they never dreamed.
Celebrating twelve film festival screenings to date, and already having received laurels including the East Los Angeles International & Youth Film Festival (El Angel Conscious Art Award) and Vegas Indie Film Fest (Best LGBT Documentary and Best LGBT Feature Film), INSPIRED made its Long Beach debut as part of the 2011 QFilms Film Festival, and we are proud to welcome Mr. Gage and his powerful and provocative film back to the Long Beach community.
