ABOUT ABOUT
CineMOLAA makes its return to the beautiful moonlit outdoor Sculpture Garden of Long Beach’s Museum of Latin American Art (http://molaa.org/)! For our third CineMOLAA screening in 2011, the Long Beach Cinematheque (http://lbcinema.org/) is thrilled to present a Long Beach exclusive premiere: LOS OJOS DE JULIA (JULIA'S EYES), the latest bone-chilling suspense film from the mind behind the Oscar-winning film Pan’s Labyrinth, Guillermo del Toro!

Already nominated for three Best Actress awards before the film’s U.S. release (Fotogramas de Plata Awards, Cinema Writers Circle Awards – Spain, and Goya Awards), actress Belén Rueda (El orfanato/The Orphanage) masterfully portrays Julia, a woman plagued by two traumatic experiences: the death of her blind twin sister Sarah (also played by Rueda), and her own deteriorating eyesight. Warned that any form of emotional stress could progress her blindness, Julia nevertheless sets out to investigate her sister’s death when a mysterious figure begins appearing – and disappearing – everywhere she goes…

As has become celebrated in the works of the reliable, talented, and visionary del Toro, Los Ojos de Julia sets an increasingly ominous tone – courtesy of Orfanato cinematographer Óscar Faura and composer Fernando Velásquez – that evolves from atmospheric to creepy to unrelentingly tense and shocking. Director Guillem Morales heightens the tension by literally plunging the audience into increasing darkness to further identify with Julia, as shadows loom in the periphery, and more than a few twists await…

We couldn’t think of a better event partner than Sino Tequila (http://sinotequila.com/), who will be serving their celebrated margaritas throughout the evening! And we couldn’t think of a greater environment for this spooky chiller than outdoors, under the stars, in MOLAA’s beautiful outdoor Sculpture Garden.
